ReferenceI have found this image very intriguing and decided to make it the identical scene in Maya. I was thinking of how I can show of my texturing skills as well as modelling.
From one of the lectures that I been to, an professional from the TV industry was talking about what they look for when hiring people. E.g. modelling something from real life, this allows them to judge your skills to the reference. |
Assets - bath
This is a bath model that I created and textured
Lighting tests:
Feedback: Too much bump and the assets don't match the photograph.
Playing with lighting to make it more life to it.
From the feedback i have received from Dav, I have removed the extreme bumps. And make it more like the reference. As to the lighting I am trying to get it look more like the reference.
I have improved the texture more to make it like the reference. Removed lot of the bumps on the wall. I have also experimented with the lighting trying out different scenario. I think the wood texture on the floor look really good as it looks vanished.
Here I have attached a light on the window to light inside of the room. I like how you can see the shadow of the bottle. This looks very life like. I have received amazing feedback on how I can make it better. But it worked well as to realism piece.
By creating this environment I have learnt a lot about how to model a real-life scene. This experiment has challenged my texturing and lighting skills greatly. I used V-Ray render which is much better than Mental Ray, that I been using in the past. I have received may feedback on test renders. e.g the models are not right size as the reference. I have fixed the size of the models but need to fix the textures. I will try to get this finished if I time at the end of the project. As it went over the time schedule.
Collaboration + Research and Development
This is the scene that I have created. I have used Substance Painter to create the texture, mainly because of the masking feature. Which I find very useful. I can get work done easily, fast and at a high stranded.
Bellow is where I experimented with lights and textures to get the perfect result. (click image to enlarge)

At first I was trying to create the scene in 1 light that is emitted from the light, as the concept shows. But wasn't getting the result that I wanted. The scene looked dull, then I started to add more light to which has helped giving life to the scene. The feedback I have gotten was many on the the lighting. The 'light bulb' stands out too much compered to the scene. It's too white where as the scene is more yellowish.
Furthermore, since I was calibrating with Yew with his final major project. His idea was a changed a little due to the 3D environment scene that I have created looks very simile to the concept. Now he wanted to change a few things to make it unique e.g. camera angle, texture to make it look like more like Victorian London. I have also changed the light source to a gas powered lamp.

Communicating Yew
We have used Facebook Messenger to communicate with each other. Which was very useful has we could share images quickly and get feedback on my 3D environment.
R&D
Painting - Giuseppe Arcimboldo
Fruit face was inspired by the painting Vaso Reversibile by Giuseppe Arcimboldo. Giuseppe Arcimboldo was an Italian painter best known for creating artistic portrait heads made entirely of such objects as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish, and books. I love how he used fruits and the positions of the fruits to give an illusion of a face. The painting shows two different images based on which position you see it.
I have received a few feedback on grapes. It looks too fake. I will work on it when I get some time. |
Collaboration + R+D
I have also done some texturing and lighting for Jiten to showcase his models.
